Dr Frankenstein plays with dolls

I was planning a sincere effort to add new Paperclay feet with shoes to my doll project when it occurred to me that it would be a much better idea to do all my paperclaying at once. I knew I had a few unfinished dolls sitting around. So, I pulled them out and discovered that a lot of their bits were missing their pieces. I started cutting and sewing and stuffing. I'd been sewing arms and legs for a couple of days when, again, it occurred to me that it would be a much better idea to just make new legs for my doll, legs with new and improved feet...feet that already have shoes. Then I wouldn't need to make her new paperclay feet at all.

So, I made more legs.

Looking at this pile of body parts, I'm not sure if I have actually created more or less to do. I think it may be a matter of perspective.

New Fairy Art on Etsy

Two new giclée prints on the Ruffing's site and in my Etsy shop..."The Moon Sings a Lullaby",

and "Moon and Star". Both are fantasy pieces and are taken from my original watercolor and pen and ink paintings.
When I painted “The Moon Sings a Lullaby Full of Poppies and Katydids”, I was imagining what kind of lullaby the moon would sing, if the moon could sing, to help people drift off to sleep. I thought of the sounds of katydids, which I’ve always loved to listen to on summer nights. And I thought of the poppy field in "The Wizard of Oz", which caused Dorothy and her friends to fall asleep on their way to The Emerald City. So, this is a picture of the moon singing us all to sleep with a lullaby full of poppies and katydids.
In "Moon and Star", I've depicted the moon as a woman with butterfly wings and the star as a little girl, both descending toward the horizon at dawn. The watercolor sky has shades of turquoise and blue and a little bit of yellow all dropped into a wet background for a soft effect.
Both giclées are a standard 8.5 x 11 inch image size on 9.5 x 12 inch fine art paper. Please visit my shop for these and other fairy art prints.

My doll now has a dress, but still no shoes

I made this pink cotton dress from scratch today. I designed the dress, made the pattern, cut it out, and sewed it together...whew. It has a ruched sash and decorative tucks above the hem. I got the inspiration for the dress from the old Izannah Walker dolls. The fabric is covered with little pale pink chrysanthemums. I was cutting out another chrysanthemum print for my quilt the other day and along the selvage was printed, "Chrysanthemums say I'm hoping tomorrow is the day."

Hopefully I will get to making this poor girl some Paperclay shoes soon. Maybe tomorrow is the day!

Still another quilt class for me

I finished my quilting homework today for another quilting class. In spite of the fact that I am usually behind on Lori's class, I signed right up for more. This one is supposed to be a yellow and blue quilt, but I bought a pretty pink fabric to make a dress for my poor doll who is still waiting for me to give her some new feet...pink fabric that looked so appealing to me next to the blue and yellow, that I think I may have to use it for my quilt instead. Perhaps there will be enough for both projects, or perhaps I will have to pick out another doll dress fabric, which, in turn, may end up in yet another project.
